With gaming quickly becoming a global phenomenon, it has opened up several potential career paths for interested individuals. One could be a character artist, game developer, a game tester on the gaming side of things. On the esports side of things, they could potentially be social media managers, esports journalists, and event organizers. Consequently, a growing number of high schools and universities are building their own on-campus esports programs to increase student engagement and entice prospects to enroll. However, a successful esports initiative needs a concrete plan for rolling out the program and constant support over time. Founded by esports veterans, Learn2Esport helps educational institutions build and manage esports initiatives, drive student engagement and learning outcomes. “From critical thinking to collaboration; from job skills in esports to lessons on entrepreneurship and creativity, Learn2Esport delivers the best educational experiences through its technological products and educational content,” says Rasmus Sandström, Co-Founder, and CEO of Learn2Esport.

Since its launch in 2016, the education tech company has been supporting students’ structured, educational needs in Sweden and countries across Europe. The common problem with conventional esports programs is that they are being run ineffectively, as often a single person is designated to oversee the entire program. For instance, a single coach may be assigned to teach students across multiple game titles, and this is similar to hiring a single coach for several traditional sports—which is not practical as each sport is different from the other. Learn2Esport offers Gameplan, a platform that features all the tools needed to run a high-quality esports program. Gameplan enables a coach to conduct full training programs with educational content, drills, and evaluations irrespective of whether the coach possesses the required expertise or not.

Therefore, schools can rely on a single coach to handle multiple game titles without compromising on the quality of education.

Gameplan provides practical assignments and tasks developed in collaboration with professional players, coaches, educators, analysts, and researchers to students. These training sessions can be analyzed to gain insights into areas where players can improve and grow. Gameplan also tracks a player’s performance and helps them develop habits such as critical thinking. Video reviews of past matches played can be viewed to gain detailed information regarding a player’s strengths and weaknesses. Besides, Gameplan ensures the esports curriculum is customized according to a student’s skill level while at the same time, emphasizing the importance of physical health. To illustrate Learn2Esport’s capabilities, Sandström mentions how the company helped a school in Sweden with their esports program and student engagement. The school was having issues with many students skipping classes often because they were staying up all night playing video games. This led to poor academic performance and the students lacked any motivation to participate in the classroom. With Learn2Esport’s help, the school was able to encourage students to attend classes and satisfy their love for gaming with the esports program.

Learn2Esport aims to partner with several esports companies to create career pathways and certification courses to aid aspiring students. These courses are aimed at preparing students with the essential skills—digital media and soft skills—that are in demand with potential esports employers and are not part of a traditional esport curriculum in schools. Currently, Learn2Esport is expanding its footprint in the U.S. and will help 25 schools with their esports programs in New York beginning in early 2021. The company will also reveal its partnership plans with major players in the esports industry, and, with such collaboration, it will continue to educate the world through esports.
